The active ingredients of OPTIVE are sodium carboxymethylcellulose (also known as sodium carmellose, a humectant that stabilizes the tear film) and glycerin (a non-darkening, long-acting humectant). OPTIVE also contains compatible solutes erythritol and L-carnitine, which protect corneal epithelial cells from damage, restore osmotic balance and normalize cell function.
