Thioctic acid (alpha-lipoic acid) is a substance produced by higher organisms, acting as a coenzyme in the oxidative decarboxylation processes of α-ketoacids. It has antioxidant properties, neutralizes various reactive oxygen species. Thioctic acid has been shown to have a beneficial effect on the symptoms of diabetic polyneuropathy, such as burning, numbness and pain.
