Ophtaguttal eye drops are used to treat conjunctivitis. This medicine reduces swelling of the conjunctiva and promotes wound healing.
OPHTAGUTTAL “Agepha” eye drops are used for the symptomatic treatment of non-infectious (e.g., non-bacterial) conjunctival irritations. OPHTAGUTTAL “Agepha” eye drops contain naphazoline as their active ingredient, which reduces conjunctival swelling and inhibits conjunctivitis, and a zinc compound that has a mild vasoconstrictor effect and promotes wound healing.
Areas of application:
- For the symptomatic treatment of non-infectious conjunctival irritations (non-infectious conjunctivitis)
- Adults and adolescents : Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, the usual dose is 2-3 drops 3-6 times daily. Please note that the maximum daily dose of 18 drops per day per affected eye should not be exceeded.
- Children aged 2-12 years : There are no studies on children under 12 years of age that demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of Ophtaguttal “Agepha” eye drops in this age group. Therefore, no dosage recommendation can be given for the active ingredient combination naphazoline hydrochloride and zinc sulfate. Use in children aged 6-12 years should only be recommended after a careful benefit-risk assessment by a doctor, and in a reduced dose (no more than 2 drops. There should be at least 4 hours between applications). Use in children aged 2-6 years is not recommended.
- Children under 2 years : Ophtaguttal “Agepha” eye drops must not be used in children aged 0-2 years (see also OPHTAGUTTAL “Agepha” eye drops must not be used).
- Use in elderly patients ≥ 65 years : The safety and efficacy of Ophtaguttal “Agepha” eye drops in elderly patients have not yet been proven.
