- The active substance of Biosteron is dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), which is a steroid hormone produced in the adrenal glands and released into the blood. In various tissues, DHEA is converted into active sex hormones: estrogens and androgens. The highest concentrations of DHEA in serum occur in youth (2nd and 3rd decade of life), followed by a slow decline, to approx. 10-20% in people aged 80.
- Indications
Biosteron is indicated for the purpose of supplementing deficiencies of dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). DHEA deficiency may cause adverse phenomena associated with the aging process, such as:
weakening of memory, intellectual ability, ability to concentrate;
worsening of well-being and depression;
mental and physical ailments associated with menopause in women and andropause in men;
reduced muscle strength, feeling of excessive fatigue, chronic fatigue syndrome;
reduced resistance to stress;
decreased sexual drive and decreased sexual performance;
obesity, decreased tissue sensitivity to insulin, which can cause diabetes;
atherosclerosis;
sleep disorders;
decreased body resistance to viral and bacterial infections.
Supplementing DHEA deficiency can counteract the above-mentioned processes and phenomena, and as a result improve the health and quality of life of aging people.
Active substance: Dehydroepiandrosterone
- Composition
1 tablet contains:
25 mg of the active substance dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)
auxiliary substances: colloidal anhydrous silica, microcrystalline cellulose, lactose monohydrate, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate.
- Dosage
Biosteron should be taken once a day, in the morning, according to the natural rhythm of DHEA secretion. The drug should be taken with a meal to facilitate its absorption. The recommended initial, single daily dose of DHEA for women is 5 mg, and for men 10 mg. The initial dose of the drug should be increased gradually (by 5 to 10 mg every 2 weeks). The maximum daily dose of DHEA recommended for women is 25 mg, and for men 50 mg.
The effect of the drug is not immediate and occurs after several weeks of taking it, which is why Biosteron is intended for long-term use. If it is necessary to use doses higher than 25 mg per day in women and 50 mg per day in men (only with a doctor’s prescription), the concentration of DHEA in the plasma should be regularly determined and medical tests should be performed frequently enough.
Elderly patients
Elderly patients usually require higher doses of the drug due to reduced production of DHEA. However, the use of doses higher than recommended should be preceded by a conversation with a doctor.
Use in children and adolescents Biosteron is not recommended for use in children and adolescents.
