Melatonin is indicated as an aid in the treatment of sleep and wakefulness rhythm disorders, e.g. related to changing time zones or shift work. The drug also facilitates the regulation of circadian sleep and wakefulness rhythm disorders in blind patients.
Action Melatonina Lek-Am 5 mg, 30 tablets
The drug Melatonina Lek-Am contains melatonin, which is produced in the human body in the central nervous system by the pineal gland. Melatonin is a neurohormone that regulates sleep and wakefulness during the day (biological circadian rhythm). During the day, the concentration of this hormone is low, the highest at night. Melatonin has a direct sleep-inducing effect, and additionally adjusts changes in the sleep and wakefulness rhythm to changes in light and the duration of day and night.
- Dosage
Adults: In sleep disorders associated with time zone changes: 2 mg to 3 mg of melatonin once daily, after dark, starting on the first day of travel. Continue treatment for 2 to 3 consecutive days after the end of travel. In sleep and wakefulness rhythm disorders associated with, for example, shift work: 1 mg to 5 mg daily an hour before bedtime. In sleep and wakefulness rhythm disorders in blind people, 0.5 mg to 5 mg should be taken once daily, around 9:00-10:00 p.m. This dosage also applies to long-term use of the drug. The drug’s effect in long-term treatment of sleep and wakefulness rhythm disorders is sometimes observed only after 2 weeks of taking the drug.
