The active ingredient is testosterone, a male androgenic hormone.
The drug is used in adult men as testosterone replacement therapy to treat various health conditions caused by a lack of testosterone (male hypogonadism). This lack of testosterone must be confirmed by two independent determinations of the concentration of testosterone in the blood. In addition, certain clinical signs must be present, including:
Sexual dysfunction (impotence)
sterility (infertility)
Decreased sex drive
fatigue
depressed mood
Bone loss due to low hormone levels
dosage
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure how and when to apply the gel.
The usual starting dose is
3 g gel (with 60 mg testosterone) per day.
Your doctor may adjust the dose.
The maximum dose is 4 g of gel (80 mg of testosterone) per day.
The drug is presented in a container with a pump mechanism that releases half a gram of gel (10 mg of testosterone) with each pressure on the piston (when the pump mechanism is pressed all the way).
Your doctor will tell you how many times to push the plunger to get the right amount of gel after the pump is full.
If you press the piston 1 time
Get 0.5 g of gel
Amount of testosterone applied to the skin: 10 mg.
If you press the piston 2 times
Get 1 g of gel
Amount of testosterone applied to the skin: 20 mg.
If you press the piston 4 times
Get 2 g of gel
Amount of testosterone applied to the skin: 40 mg.
If you press the piston 6 times
Get 3 g of gel
Amount of testosterone applied to the skin: 60 mg.
If you press the piston 8 times
Get 4 g of gel
Amount of testosterone applied to the skin: 80 mg.
Two weeks after you start treatment, your doctor will take blood samples from you to determine if you need to change your dose. During the application period, you should be prepared for regular checks.
