The drug inhibits, in particular, the adhesion and sticking of blood platelets (thrombocytes) and thereby prevents the formation of blood clots (thrombi) (inhibition of platelet aggregation).
It is used
For unstable angina (heart pain caused by impaired blood flow in the coronary arteries) – as part of standard therapy.
For acute myocardial infarction – as part of standard therapy.
To prevent a second infarction after the first infarction (for the prevention of a second infarction).
After operations or other interventions on arterial blood vessels (after surgical or interventional procedures on arterial vessels, for example, after coronary artery bypass grafting [CABG], after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty [PTCA]).
For the prevention of temporary lack of blood flow to the brain (TIA: transient ischemic attacks) and cerebral infarctions after the onset of previous stages (e.g. temporary paralysis of the muscles of the face or arms or temporary loss of vision).

The drug is not intended to treat pain conditions.

Dosage
For unstable angina (heart pain caused by impaired blood circulation in the coronary arteries):
The recommended daily dose is 1 tablet (equivalent to 100 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day).
In case of acute heart attack:
The recommended daily dose is 1 tablet (equivalent to 100 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day).
To prevent a second heart attack after a first heart attack (recurrent heart attack prophylaxis):
The recommended daily dose is 3 tablets (equivalent to 300 mg of acetylsalicylic acid per day).
After surgery or other interventions on arterial blood vessels (after surgical or interventional procedures on arterial vessels; e.g. after ACVB; after PTCA):
The recommended daily dose is 1 tablet (equivalent to 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid per day).
The best time to start treatment after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is 24 hours after surgery.
To prevent transient cerebral infarction (TIA) and cerebral infarction after the onset of previous stages:
The recommended daily dose is 1 tablet (equivalent to 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid per day).
Side effects
Gastrointestinal complaints such as heartburn, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea.
Minor blood loss from the gastrointestinal tract (microbleeding).
Gastric or intestinal bleeding. With prolonged use of the drug, anemia (iron deficiency anemia) may develop due to hidden blood loss from the stomach or intestines.
Ulcers of the stomach or intestines, which in very rare cases can lead to perforation, gastrointestinal inflammation.
Skin reactions (very rarely up to severe febrile skin rashes with damage to the mucous membranes [erythema multiforme exudative]).
Hypersensitivity reactions of the skin, respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract and cardiovascular system, especially in asthmatics. The following symptoms of the disease may occur: for example: For example, a drop in blood pressure, attacks of shortness of breath, inflammation of the nasal mucosa, nasal congestion, allergic shock, swelling of the face, tongue and larynx (Quincke’s edema).
Headache, dizziness, confusion, hearing loss or ringing in the ears (tinnitus) may be signs of an overdose, especially in children and elderly patients.
Impaired kidney function and acute renal failure.
Decreased blood sugar (hypoglycemia).
Acetylsalicylic acid in low doses reduces the excretion of uric acid. In patients at risk, this may provoke an attack of gout.
