Indication

  The medicine is an antidiabetic medicine used to reduce high blood sugar levels in patients with diabetes mellitus; it can be given to adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and above. Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels (diabetes mellitus).
The drug is produced using biotechnological methods. It has a rapid onset of action within 10 – 20 minutes and a short duration of action of about 4 hours.

Contraindication

  The medicine must not be used
if you are allergic to insulin glulisine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
if your blood sugar level is too low (hypoglycaemia); follow the recommendations for hypoglycaemia (see current package leaflet).

Dosing

  Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Your doctor will determine how much you need based on your lifestyle, blood sugar test results and previous insulin use.
The medicine is a short-acting insulin. Your doctor may prescribe it in combination with an intermediate or long-acting insulin, basal insulin or with tablets for high blood sugar.
After switching from another insulin to insulin glulisine, your dosage may need to be adjusted by your doctor.
Your blood sugar level can be influenced by many factors. You should be aware of these factors in order to be able to react correctly to changes in your blood sugar level and to avoid hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. For further information, please refer to the package leaflet.
Frequency of use
The medicine should be taken shortly (0 to 15 minutes) before or after a meal.
If you have used more than you should
If you inject too much, your blood sugar level may drop too low (hypoglycaemia). Check your blood sugar frequently. Basically, to avoid hypoglycaemia, you need to eat more and monitor your blood sugar.

If you have forgotten to use
If you miss a dose or if you inject too little insulin, your blood sugar level may become too high (hyperglycaemia). Check your blood sugar often.
Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you cancel the application
This could lead to severe hyperglycaemia (severely raised blood sugar) and ketoacidosis (a build-up of acid in the blood because the body gets energy from fat instead of sugar when insulin is severely lacking).
