Cetirizine AL syrup should NOT be taken
if you have severe kidney disease (severe renal impairment with creatinine clearance below 10 ml/min), or if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to the active substance of Cetirizine AL syrup, to one of the excipients, to hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives (closely related active ingredients of other medicines).
Cetirizine AL syrup should not be taken –
if you suffer from rare hereditary problems of intolerance fructose.
Take special care when taking cetirizine AL syrup if you suffer from impaired renal function: If necessary, you will take a smaller dose.
No interactions with noticeable effects have been observed between alcohol (at a level of 0.5 ppm in the blood, which is equivalent to about one glass of wine) and cetirizine in normal doses. However, as with all antihistamines, it is recommended to avoid concomitant alcohol intake.
If you are going to undergo a skin allergy test, cetirizine AL syrup should be discontinued three days before the allergy test.
When taking cetirizine AL syrup with food and drink,
food does not significantly affect the absorption of cetirizine.
As with other drugs, cetirizine AL syrup should be avoided in pregnant women. Accidental ingestion of the drug by pregnant women should not result in harmful effects on the health of the fetus. However, the drug should be discontinued. Cetirizine AL syrup should not be taken during breastfeeding, as cetirizine passes into breast milk.
In clinical trials, cetirizine dihydrochloride at the recommended dose did not lead to any signs of impaired attention, alertness and driving ability.
Important information about some of the ingredients of cetirizine AL syrup – This medicine contains sorbitol. Please do not take cetirizine AL syrup until you have consulted your doctor if you know that you have an intolerance to certain sugars. Methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate and propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate can cause hypersensitivity reactions, including delayed ones.
The solution can be taken undiluted. For dosing, use the enclosed measuring spoon. 1 full measuring spoon (= 5 ml) of solution contains 5 mg cetirizine dihydrochloride.
– Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 10 mg once daily as a 10 ml solution (= 2 full measuring spoons).
– Children aged 6 to 12 years: 5 mg twice daily, 5 ml (= full measuring spoon) twice daily.
– Children aged 2 to 6 years: 2.5 mg twice daily as a 2.5 ml solution (= 1/2 measuring spoon) twice daily.
– Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment: Patients with moderate renal impairment are recommended to take 5 mg once daily.
Keep medicines out of the reach of children. You must not use the medicine after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and label after “Best used until”. The expiry date refers to the last day of the month. After opening, Cetirizine AL syrup has a shelf life of 12 weeks! Store in the original container!
