Indication

  The medicine contains the active ingredient insulin human and is used to treat diabetes mellitus. You develop diabetes when your pancreas does not produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels. The medicine is used to achieve long-term blood sugar control. The addition of protamine sulfate prolongs its effect.
Your doctor may prescribe a fast-acting insulin to go with the medicine. Each of these medicines comes with its own leaflet for instructions. Do not change your insulin on your own until your doctor thinks it is necessary. If you do change your insulin, be extra careful. Each type of insulin is identified by a specific color and symbols on the pack and cartridge so you can easily tell them apart.

Contraindication

  The medicine must not be used
if you think you are getting low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). The «Side effects» category explains what you should do in case of mild hypoglycaemia.

Dosing

  Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist. To avoid the possible transmission of disease, each cartridge must be used by you alone, even when the needle on the injection device is changed.

Normally, you should use the preparation as your basal insulin. Your doctor has told you how much of which insulin you should inject, when and how often. These instructions apply only to you personally. Follow them exactly and visit your doctor regularly.
If your doctor switches you to a different type of insulin (for example, from animal insulin to human insulin), you may need more or less than before. This may be just the first injection, or a gradual transition over several weeks or months.
The product in cartridges is only suitable for injections under the skin using a reusable pen. Ask your doctor if you need to inject insulin in a different way.
If you have used more than you should
If you inject more than you should, you may experience low blood sugar. Check your blood sugar (see «Side Effects» category).
If you have forgotten to use
If you inject less than you should, your blood sugar level may rise. Check your blood sugar. Do not inject a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you cancel the application
If you inject less than you should, your blood sugar level may become too high. Do not change your insulin on your own until your doctor thinks it is necessary.
