Indication

  The medicine contains insulin glargine. This is a modified insulin that is very similar to human insulin.
It is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children aged 2 years and older. Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels (diabetes mellitus). Insulin glargine has a long-lasting and consistent blood sugar-lowering effect.

Contraindication

   The medicine must not be used
if you are allergic to insulin glargine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Dosing

  Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Although this medicine contains the same active substance as another preparation (insulin glargine 300 units/ml), these medicines are not interchangeable. Switching from one insulin treatment to another is only possible with a doctor’s prescription, under medical supervision and monitoring of blood sugar. Please contact your doctor for more information.
Depending on your lifestyle and the results of your blood sugar tests as well as your previous insulin use, your doctor will
determine how much medicine you need per day and at what time of day,
Tell you when to check your blood sugar levels and whether you need to do urine tests,
Tell you when you may need to inject a higher or lower dose of the medicine.
The medicine is a long-acting insulin. Your doctor may prescribe it in combination with a short-acting insulin or with tablets for high blood sugar.
Your blood sugar level can be influenced by many factors. You should be aware of these factors in order to be able to react correctly to changes in your blood sugar level and to avoid hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia.
Use in children and adolescents
The medicine can be used in adolescents and children aged 2 years and older.
Use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you.
Frequency of use
You will need an injection of the medicine at the same time every day.
Confusion of insulin
You must always check the name of the insulin before each injection to avoid confusion between it and other insulins.
If you have used more than you should
If you inject too much of the medicine, your blood sugar level may fall too low (hypoglycaemia). Check your blood sugar often. In general, to avoid hypoglycaemia, you need to eat more and monitor your blood sugar.

If you have forgotten to use
If you miss a dose or if you inject too little insulin, your blood sugar level may become too high (hyperglycaemia). Check your blood sugar frequently. Information on treating hyperglycaemia can be found at the end of the leaflet.
Do not use a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
If you cancel the application
This could lead to severe hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and ketoacidosis (a buildup of acid in the blood because the body gets energy from fat instead of sugar when insulin is severely lacking). Do not stop treatment without talking to a doctor who will tell you what to do.
