“Orthomol AMD is an abbreviation for age-related macular degeneration. The macula is a highly specialized area of the retina and is responsible for visual acuity. As we age, deposits can form under the retina, especially in the macula. Because of the deposits, more and more of the sensory cells in the macula die off – they degenerate.
Age-related macular degeneration is the most common cause of severe visual impairment. The first signs of the disease then usually become noticeable when reading. A blurry black spot suddenly appears in the middle of the font. Scientific studies have shown that an additional diet with certain micronutrients can contribute to the progression of AMD. In this context, vitamins with antioxidant properties, the mineral zinc and the secondary plant substances lutein and zeaxanthin in particular can provide targeted nutritional support for the eyes.
