Dekapan 30 is a keratolytic ointment containing 30% salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is a fat-soluble substance that mixes with the lipids of the stratum corneum and sebaceous glands of hair follicles and is able to remove them.
Salicylic acid is also able to change desmosomes (intercellular connections of corneocytes), reducing cell adhesion and causing an exfoliating effect. Therefore, it has keratolytic and comedolytic properties. In addition, due to the ability to inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins, it has anti-inflammatory properties.
Composition
Dekapan 30 ointment contains 30% salicylic acid.”
