The medicine contains the active ingredient praziquantel. It is a drug used to treat diseases caused by flukes (anthelmintic; trematode drug).
The medicine is used for:
Diseases caused by flukes (trematodes), such as various species of paired flukes (e.g. Schistosoma haematobium, S. mansoni, S. intercalatum, S. japonicum, S. mekongi), liver flukes (e.g. Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini) and lung flukes (e.g. Paragonimus westermani and other species).

contraindication

The drug must not be taken
if you are allergic to praziquantel or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,
if the eyes are infested with larvae of the pork tapeworm (intraocular cysticercosis),
if rifampicin (active ingredient against tuberculosis) is given at the same time, since rifampicin increases the activity of drug-degrading enzymes and effective blood levels may not be reached.

Dosage of BILTRICIDE

Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adult
Schistosoma haematobium, Schistosoma mansoni, Schistosoma intercalatum (pair fluke):
Daily dose: 40 mg/kg body weight, spread over 1 – 2 intakes
Duration: 1 day
Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mekongi (pair fluke):
Daily dose: 60 mg/kg body weight, divided into 2 – 3 intakes
Duration: 1 day
Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini (liver fluke)
Daily dose: 75 mg/kg body weight, divided into 3 intakes
Duration: 1 – 3 days
Paragonimus westermani and other subspecies (lung flukes)
Daily dose: 75 mg/kg body weight, divided into 3 intakes
Duration: 2 – 3 days

Indikation

Das Arzneimittel enthält den Wirkstoff Praziquantel. Es ist ein Arzneimittel zur Behandlung von Erkrankungen, die durch Saugwürmer verursacht werden (Anthelminthikum; Trematodenmittel).
Das Arzneimittel wird angewendet bei:
Erkrankungen, die durch Saugwürmer (Trematoden), wie verschiedene Arten von Pärchenegeln (z.B. Schistosoma haematobium, S. mansoni, S. intercalatum, S. japonicum, S. mekongi), Leberegeln (z.B. Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini) und Lungenegeln (z.B. Paragonimus westermani und andere Arten), verursacht werden.

Kontraindikation

Das Arzneimittel darf nicht eingenommen werden,
wenn Sie allergisch gegen Praziquantel oder einen der sonstigen Bestandteile dieses Arzneimittels sind,
bei Befall der Augen mit Larven des Schweinebandwurms (intraokulare Zystizerkose),
bei gleichzeitiger Gabe von Rifampicin (Wirkstoff gegen Tuberkulose), da Rifampicin die Aktivität arzneimittelabbauender Enzyme erhöht und wirksame Blutspiegel möglicherweise nicht erreicht werden.

Tagesdosis:40 mg/kg KG, verteilt auf 1 – 2 Einnahmen
Dauer: 1 Tag
Schistosoma japonicum, Schistosoma mekongi (Pärchenegel):
Tagesdosis: 60 mg/kg KG, verteilt auf 2 – 3 Einnahmen
Dauer: 1 Tag
Clonorchis sinensis, Opisthorchis viverrini (Leberegel)
Tagesdosis: 75 mg/kg KG, verteilt auf 3 Einnahmen
Dauer: 1 – 3 Tage
Paragonimus westermani und andere Unterarten (Lungenegel)
Tagesdosis: 75 mg/kg KG, verteilt auf 3 Einnahmen
Dauer: 2 – 3 Tage
