Toujeo 300 U/ml Solostar , 5×1.5ml, Sanofi-Aventis Germany GmbH, Toujeo 300 E/ml Solostar 5×1.5 ml,Sanofi-Aventis Deutschland GmbH, Toujeo
Indication
The medicine contains an insulin called insulin glargine. It is a modified insulin that is very similar to human insulin.
It contains three times more insulin in 1 ml than a standard insulin which contains 100 units/ml.
It is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children aged 6 years and above. Diabetes mellitus is a condition in which the body does not produce enough insulin to control blood sugar levels.
The medicine lowers your blood sugar consistently over a long period of time. It is used once a day. If necessary, you can change the time of your injection. This is because this medicine lowers your blood sugar over a long period of time.
Contraindication
The medicine must not be used
if you are allergic to insulin glargine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Dosing
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
Switching from one insulin therapy to another is only possible with a doctor’s prescription, under medical supervision and blood sugar control. Please contact your doctor for more information.
How is the drug dosage?
The prefilled pen can deliver a dose of 1 to 80 units per injection in increments of 1 unit.
The dose window on the pen shows the number of insulin units being injected. Do not convert the dose.
Based on your lifestyle, the results of your blood sugar tests and your previous insulin use, your doctor will tell you:
How much you need per day and at what time of day.
When to check your blood sugar levels and whether you need to do urine tests.
When you may need a higher or lower dose.
The medicine is a long-acting insulin. Your doctor may prescribe it in combination with a short-acting insulin or with other medicines for high blood sugar.
If you use more than one insulin, always make sure you are using the correct insulin before each injection by checking the name of your insulin. There have been reports of misuse due to confusion between insulins, particularly long-acting and rapid-acting insulins. The strength is highlighted on the label. If you are unsure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
Your blood sugar level can be influenced by many factors. You should be aware of these factors in order to be able to react correctly to changes in your blood sugar level and to avoid hyperglycemia or hypoglycemia. For further information, please see the box at the end of the package leaflet.
Flexibility in the timing of application
Use the medicine once a day, preferably at the same time every day.
If necessary, you can inject it up to 3 hours before or after the usual time.
Use in elderly patients (65 years and older)
If you are 65 years or older, talk to your doctor as you may need a lower dose.
Use in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
If you have kidney or liver problems, talk to your doctor as you may need a lower dose.
If you have used more than you should
If you inject too much of this medicine, your blood sugar level may become too low. Check your blood sugar and eat more to avoid hypoglycemia. If your blood sugar level becomes too low, read the advice in the box at the end of the leaflet.
If you have forgotten to use
If necessary, you can inject the insulin up to 3 hours before or after the usual time.
If you miss a dose or if you inject too little insulin, your blood sugar level may rise too high (hyperglycaemia):
Do not inject a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
Check your blood sugar and inject the next dose at the usual time.
Information on the treatment of hyperglycaemia can be found in the box at the end of the package leaflet.
If you cancel the application
Do not stop using this medicine without talking to your doctor. If you stop using it, it could lead to very high blood sugar levels and too much acid in the blood (ketoacidosis).
If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
