- This is a combined oral contraceptive medicine, also called the pill. Each tablet contains a small amount of two types of female hormones, a progestogen, desogestrel, and an estrogen, ethinylestradiol.
- These hormones protect you from becoming pregnant, just as your natural hormones protect you from becoming pregnant again if you are already pregnant.
- The combined contraceptive pill protects you from pregnancy in three ways. These hormones
- 1. prevent the ovaries from releasing an egg every month (ovulation),
- 2. thicken the fluid at the cervix and make it more difficult for sperm to reach the egg,
- 3. change the lining of the uterus in such a way that a fertilized egg is less likely to be accepted
