The drug is an anti-cancer drug.
It is used to treat breast cancer in women who are at risk for heart disease. It is also used to treat ovarian cancer. It is used to kill cancer cells, shrink tumor size, delay tumor growth and prolong your survival.
The medicine, in combination with another medicine, bortezomib, is also used to treat multiple myeloma, a cancer of the blood, in patients who have had at least one prior therapy.
This medicine is also used to treat Kaposi’s sarcoma and can cause the tumors to flatten, whiten, and shrink. Other symptoms of Kaposi’s sarcoma, such as swelling around the tumor area, may also improve or go away.
The drug contains a drug that acts on cells in the body to specifically kill cancer cells. Doxorubicin hydrochloride in the medicine is encased in tiny spheres called pegylated liposomes. These liposomes help to transport the active substance from the bloodstream to the cancerous tissue more than to the healthy, normal tissue.

The drug must not be used
if you are allergic to doxorubicin hydrochloride or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Dosage of Caelyx 20mg/10ml Infusion Solution Concentrate

The preparation is its own special formulation. Therefore, it must not be substituted for other preparations containing doxorubicin hydrochloride.
In what dosage is it used?
If you are being treated for breast cancer or ovarian cancer, the medicine will be given to you at a dose of 50 mg per square meter of body surface area (based on your height and weight). The dose will be repeated every 4 weeks as long as the disease does not progress and you are tolerating the treatment.
If you are being treated for multiple myeloma and have received at least one prior therapy, the medicine will be given immediately at a dose of 30 mg per square meter of your body surface area (calculated using your height and weight) as a 1-hour infusion on Day 4 of the 3-week bortezomib treatment regimen applied after the bortezomib infusion. The application is repeated as long as you respond satisfactorily and tolerate the treatment.
If you are being treated for Kaposi’s sarcoma, you will be given the medicine at a dose of 20 mg per square meter of body surface area (based on your height and weight). You will receive this dose every 2 to 3 weeks for a period of 2 to 3 months. The treatment is then carried out as often as is necessary to maintain the success of the therapy.

Indikation

Das Praparat ist ein Mittel gegen Krebs.
Es wird eingesetzt zur Behandlung von Krebserkrankungen der weiblichen Brust bei Patientinnen mit einem Risiko fur Herzerkrankungen. Es wird auch zur Behandlung von Krebserkrankungen der Eierstocke angewendet. Es wird verwendet, um Krebszellen abzutoten, die Gro?e des Tumors zu verkleinern, das Wachstum des Tumors zu verzogern und Ihr Uberleben zu verlangern.
Das Arzneimittel dient in Kombination mit einem anderen Arzneimittel, Bortezomib, auch der Behandlung des multiplen Myeloms, einer Krebserkrankung des Blutes, bei Patienten, die mindestens eine vorangegangene Therapie erhielten.
Dieses Arzneimittel dient auch der Behandlung des Kaposi-Sarkoms und kann zur Abflachung, Aufhellung und zum Ruckgang der Tumoren fuhren. Andere Symptome des Kaposi-Sarkoms wie eine Schwellung im Bereich des Tumors konnen ebenfalls verbessert oder zum Verschwinden gebracht werden.
Das Arzneimittel enthalt einen Arzneistoff, der so auf Korperzellen einwirkt, dass er Krebszellen auf gezielte Weise abtotet. Doxorubicin-Hydrochlorid ist in dem Arzneimittel in winzige Kugelchen eingeschlossen, die polyethylenglykolisierte Liposomen hei?en. Diese Liposomen helfen, den Wirkstoff aus der Blutbahn mehr in das Krebsgewebe als in das gesunde, normale Gewebe zu transportieren.

Kontraindikation

Das Arzneimittel darf nicht angewendet werden,
wenn Sie allergisch gegen Doxorubicin-Hydrochlorid oder einen der sonstigen Bestandteile dieses Arzneimittels sind.

Dosierung von Caelyx 20mg/10ml Infusionslosungs-Konzentrat

Das Praparat ist eine eigene, besondere Formulierung. Deshalb darf es nicht gegen andere Zubereitungen mit Doxorubicin-Hydrochlorid ausgetauscht werden.
In welcher Dosierung wird es angewendet?
Wenn Sie wegen Brustkrebs oder Eierstockkrebs behandelt werden, wird Ihnen das Arzneimittel in einer Dosis von 50 mg pro Quadratmeter Korperoberflache (basierend auf Ihrer Korpergro?e und Ihrem Gewicht) verabreicht werden. Die Dosis wird alle 4 Wochen wiederholt werden und zwar solange, wie die Erkrankung nicht fortschreitet und Sie die Behandlung vertragen.
Wenn Sie wegen eines multiplen Myeloms behandelt werden und bereits mindestens eine vorangegangene Therapie erhielten, wird das Arzneimittel mit einer Dosis von 30 mg pro Quadratmeter Ihrer Korperoberflache (errechnet aus Ihrer Korpergro?e und Ihrem Gewicht) als einstundige Infusion am Tag 4 des dreiwochigen Bortezomib-Behandlungsschemas unmittelbar nach der Bortezomib-Infusion angewandt. Die Anwendung wird wiederholt so lange Sie zufriedenstellend ansprechen und die Behandlung vertragen.
Wenn Sie wegen eines Kaposi-Sarkoms behandelt werden, wird Ihnen das Arzneimittel in einer Dosis von 20 mg pro Quadratmeter Korperoberflache (basierend auf Ihrer Korpergro?e und Ihrem Gewicht) verabreicht werden. Sie erhalten diese Dosis alle 2 bis 3 Wochen uber einen Zeitraum von 2 bis 3 Monaten. Danach erfolgt die Behandlung so oft, wie es fur den Erhalt des Therapieerfolges notig ist.
