- The gel is a medicine for hormone replacement therapy (HRT). It contains an estrogen (female sex hormone).
- The dosing gel is used to treat complaints during and after menopause or after surgical removal of the ovaries (climacteric syndrome after natural and artificial menopause) as well as to prevent and treat signs of regression of the urinary and genital organs caused by estrogen deficiency.
- During menopause, a woman’s production of her own estrogen decreases. This can cause symptoms that manifest as hot flushes in the face, neck and chest area. The gel relieves these symptoms that occur during and after menopause. It is also used to treat estrogen deficiency after surgical removal of the ovaries.
- An estrogen deficiency can also lead to atrophy of the urinary and genital organs. Typical symptoms include itching and burning of the vagina, vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse and a higher susceptibility to vaginal infections and urinary tract infections. The use of the drug counteracts these symptoms because it compensates for the estrogen deficiency.

- The sole use without regular addition of a corpus luteum hormone (progestogen) for treatment during and after menopause may only be used in women who have had their uterus removed.
