Indication
This medicine is a fast-acting blood sugar lowering insulin to be taken with meals. The medicine is an injection solution containing insulin aspart and is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children from 1 year of age. Diabetes is a disease in which your body does not produce enough insulin to control your blood sugar levels. Treatment with this medicine helps prevent long-term effects of your diabetes.
The medicine should be injected up to 2 minutes before the start of the meal. It is also possible to use it up to 20 minutes after the start of the meal.
This medicine has its maximum effect between 1 and 3 hours after injection and the effect lasts for 3 to 5 hours.
This medicine should normally be used in combination with intermediate- or long-acting insulin preparations.
This medicine can also be used for continuous infusion in a pump system.
Contraindication
The medicine must not be used
if you are allergic to insulin aspart or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.

Dose for type 1 and type 2 diabetes
Your doctor will decide with you:
how much insulin you need at each meal
when to check your blood sugar level and whether you need a higher or lower dose.
If you want to change your current diet, discuss this with your doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional first, as a change in diet may also change your insulin requirements.
If you are taking other medicines, ask your doctor if your treatment needs to be adjusted.
Dose adjustment in type 2 diabetes
The daily dose depends on what your blood sugar level was before meals and before going to bed the previous day.
Before breakfast – the dose should be adjusted according to the blood sugar level before lunch the previous day.
Before lunch – the dose should be adjusted according to the blood sugar level before dinner the previous day.
Before dinner – the dose should be adjusted according to the blood sugar level at bedtime the previous day.

Blood sugar level before meal or before bedtime: below 4.0 mmol/l or below 71 mg/dl
Dosage adjustment: Reduce dose by 1 unit
Blood sugar level before meal or before bedtime: 4.0 – 6.0 mmol / l or 71 – 108 mg / dl
Dosage adjustment: Do not adjust dose
Blood sugar level before meal or before bedtime: over 6.0 mmol/l or over 108 mg/dl
Dosage adjustment: Increase dose by 1 unit
Use in elderly patients (>/= 65 years old)
This medicine can be used in elderly patients. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose.
Use in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
If you have kidney or liver problems, you may need to check your blood sugar levels more often. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose.
If you have used more than you should
If you inject too much insulin, your blood sugar level may become too low (hypoglycaemia), see information in the «Side effects» category under «Low blood sugar».
If you have forgotten to use
If you forget to inject your insulin, your blood sugar level may become too high (hyperglycaemia). See the «Side effects» category under «High blood sugar.»
With three simple rules you can avoid the occurrence of low or high blood sugar:
Always carry a spare syringe and a spare vial with you.
Always carry something with you that identifies you as a diabetic.
Always carry sugary products with you. See the «Side Effects» category under «What to do if your blood sugar level gets too low.»
If you cancel the application
Do not stop your insulin therapy without talking to your doctor. Stopping your insulin could lead to very high blood sugar levels (severe hyperglycaemia) and ketoacidosis (an over-acidification of the blood that can be life-threatening).
