Progestogel (Progesterone) is a physiological progestogen gel used to treat premenstrual mastodynia (breast pain and tenderness). It works by increasing the concentration of progesterone in breast tissue. When applied topically, it is absorbed through the skin and acts directly on the breasts. By blocking estrogen receptors, it promotes better absorption of fluid from tissues, which leads to a decrease in compression of the milk ducts. In addition to this, it can also help trigger the production of certain enzymes that help oxidize estradiol into a less active form. This reduces some of the effects that estrogen has on breast tissue. Thus, the use of this gel helps reduce the intensity and severity of mastalgia and chest pain.
Dosage and method of administration
Progestogel (Progesterone) comes in the form of a gel that is applied topically to the breast. Every 2.5 g of gel contains 0.025 g of progesterone. Visit your doctor to determine the correct dosage schedule and frequency. Your doctor may recommend applying 2.5 g of gel (5 g total) per day to each breast. It should be gently rubbed into the skin. Doctors usually advise patients to use it from days 10 to 25 of the cycle. Use it only as directed by your doctor and never overuse.
