Contraindications
hypersensitivity to valganciclovir, ganciclovir or any component of the drug. Due to the similar chemical structure of Valcyte and acyclovir and valaciclovir, cross-sensitivity reactions to these drugs are possible;
absolute neutrophil count <500 cells/µl, platelet count <25,000 cells/µl, hemoglobin level — below 80 g/l, creatinine Cl — 10 ml/min.
pregnancy;
lactation period;
children’s age up to 12 years.
With caution: renal failure, old age (safety and efficacy of the drug have not been established).
Use during pregnancy and lactation
Reproductive toxicity studies with valganciclovir have not been repeated due to the rapid and complete conversion of the drug to ganciclovir. Ganciclovir interferes with fertility and is teratogenic in animals.
During treatment, women of childbearing age should be advised to use reliable methods of contraception. Men are advised to use a barrier method of contraception during treatment with Valcyte and for at least 90 days after its completion (see section Preclinical safety data).
The safety of Valcyte in human pregnancy has not been established. Valcyte should be avoided during pregnancy unless the potential benefit to the mother justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Peri- and postnatal development with valganciclovir and ganciclovir has not been studied, but the possibility of excretion of ganciclovir in breast milk and the development of serious adverse reactions in the nursing child cannot be ruled out. Therefore, given the potential benefits of Valcyte therapy for the breastfeeding mother, a decision should be made to discontinue the drug or stop breastfeeding.

Kontraindikationen
Ьberempfindlichkeit gegen Valganciclovir, Ganciclovir oder einen Bestandteil des Arzneimittels. Aufgrund der дhnlichen chemischen Struktur von Valcyte und Aciclovir und Valaciclovir sind Kreuzempfindlichkeitsreaktionen auf diese Arzneimittel mцglich;
die absolute Zahl der Neutrophilen ist < 500 Zellen/µl, die Zahl der Blutplдttchen ist < 25.000 Zellen/µl, der Hдmoglobinspiegel ist unter 80 g/l, Cl Kreatinin ist 10 ml/min.

Anwendung wдhrend der Schwangerschaft und Stillzeit
Studien zur Reproduktionstoxizitдt mit Valganciclovir wurden aufgrund der schnellen und vollstдndigen Umwandlung des Arzneimittels in Ganciclovir nicht wiederholt. Ganciclovir beeintrдchtigt die Fruchtbarkeit und ist bei Tieren teratogen.
Wдhrend der Behandlung sollten Frauen im gebдrfдhigen Alter angewiesen werden, zuverlдssige Verhьtungsmethoden anzuwenden. Mдnnern wird empfohlen, wдhrend der Behandlung mit Valcyte und fьr mindestens 90 Tage nach deren Beendigung eine Barrieremethode zur Empfдngnisverhьtung anzuwenden (siehe Abschnitt „Prдklinische Daten zur Sicherheit“).
Die Sicherheit von Valcyte in der Schwangerschaft beim Menschen wurde nicht nachgewiesen. Valcyte sollte wдhrend der Schwangerschaft vermieden werden, es sei denn, der potenzielle Nutzen fьr die Mutter rechtfertigt das potenzielle Risiko fьr den Fцtus.
Die peri- und postnatale Entwicklung mit Valganciclovir und Ganciclovir wurde nicht untersucht, aber die Mцglichkeit einer Ausscheidung von Ganciclovir in die Muttermilch und die Entwicklung schwerwiegender Nebenwirkungen beim gestillten Kind kann nicht ausgeschlossen werden. Angesichts des potenziellen Nutzens der Valcyte-Therapie fьr die stillende Mutter sollte daher entschieden werden, das Arzneimittel abzusetzen oder mit dem Stillen aufzuhцren.
