Tresiba 200 units/ml solution for injection i. FlexTouch 5x3ml, Tresiba 200 Einheiten/ml Inj.-Lsg. i. FlexTouch 5×3 ml, Novo Nordisk Pharma GmbH,Tresiba
Indication
The medicine is a long-acting basal insulin called insulin degludec. It is used to treat diabetes mellitus in adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and older. The medicine helps your body to lower your blood sugar levels. It is used once a day. In case you cannot keep to your normal dosing schedule, you can also change the time of injection, as the blood sugar lowering effect of the medicine lasts for a long time. The medicine can be used with mealtime fast-acting insulin medicines.
In type 2 diabetes mellitus, the medicine can be used in combination with anti-diabetic tablets or with injectable antidiabetic medicines other than insulin.
In type 1 diabetes mellitus, the medicine must always be used in combination with meal-related rapid-acting insulin medicines.
Contraindication
The medicine must not be used
if you are allergic to insulin degludec or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
Dosing
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor has told you. If you are not sure, check with your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
Your doctor will decide with you:
how much of the medicine you need each day.
when to check your blood sugar level and whether you need a higher or lower dose.
Flexibility in the timing of application
Always follow your doctor’s dosage recommendations.
Use the medicine once a day, preferably at the same time each day.
If it is not possible to use the medicine at the usual time, the medicine can be used at another time of the day, but there must be at least 8 hours between injections.
If you want to change your current diet, discuss this with your doctor, pharmacist or healthcare professional first, as a change in diet may also change your insulin requirements.
Based on your blood sugar levels, your doctor may adjust your dose.
If you are taking other medicines, ask your doctor if your treatment needs to be adjusted.
Use in elderly patients (>/= 65 years old)
This medicine can be used in elderly patients, but if you are elderly you may need to check your blood sugar more often. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose.
Use in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function
If you have kidney or liver problems, you may need to check your blood sugar levels more often. Talk to your doctor about adjusting your dose.
If you have used more than you should
If you inject too much insulin, your blood sugar level may become too low (hypoglycaemia) – see information in the Patient Information category.
If you have forgotten to use
If you miss a dose, inject that dose as soon as you remember the error, leaving at least 8 hours between doses. If it is already time for your next regular dose when you realize you missed the previous dose, do not use a double dose, but go back to your once-daily dosing schedule.
If you cancel the application
Do not stop your insulin therapy without talking to your doctor. Stopping your insulin could lead to very high blood sugar levels and ketoacidosis (an over-acidification of the blood).
