Combined bactericidal chemotherapeutic agent.
The drug Bactrim forte contains two active substances that have a synergistic effect, blocking two enzymes that catalyze the successive stages of folinic acid biosynthesis in microorganisms. Due to this mechanism, the bactericidal effect in vitro is achieved at concentrations in which the individual components of the drug have only a bacteriostatic effect. In addition, Bactrim forte is often effective against pathogens that are resistant to one of its components.
The in vitro antibacterial activity of Bactrim forte covers a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative pathogens, although sensitivity may depend on geographic location.
Usually susceptible pathogens (MIC<80 mg/l for sulfamethoxazole)
Cocci: Branhamella catarrhalis.
Gram-negative microorganisms: Haemophilus influenzae (β-lactamase and β-lactamase-forming strains), Haemophilus parainfluenzae, E. coli, Citrobacter freundii, other Citrobacter species, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella oxytoca, other Klebsiella species, Enterobacter cloaceae, Enterobacter aerogenes, Hafnia alvei, Serratia marcescens, Serratis liquefaciens, other Serratia species, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, Morganella morganii, Shigella spp., Yersinia enterocolitica, other Yersinia species, Vibrio cholerae.
Various Gram-negative microorganisms: Edwardsiella tarda, Alcalisenes faecalis, Pseudomonas cepacia, Burkholderia (Pseudomonas) pseudomallei.
Clinical experience shows that Brucella spp., Listeria monocytogenes, Nocar dia asteroides., Pneumocystis carinii, Cyclospora cayetanensis can also be sensitive.

Das Medikament Bactrim forte enthдlt zwei Wirkstoffe, die eine synergistische Wirkung haben und zwei Enzyme blockieren, die die aufeinanderfolgenden Phasen der Folinsдure-Biosynthese in Mikroorganismen katalysieren.
