The natural vaginal microbiota consists primarily of lactic acid bacteria of the Lactobacillus genus . These bacteria naturally move from the lower digestive tract towards the urogenital system. Thanks to their properties, they affect the microbiological balance and maintain the appropriate vaginal pH. They create a barrier that prevents the migration of unfavorable microorganisms.
PROVAG contains 3 Polish strains of live, freeze-dried lactic acid bacteria: Lactobacillus gasseri 57C, Lactobacillus fermentum 57 A and Lactobacillus plantarum 57B.
In vitro studies have confirmed their following properties:
- resistance to low pH in the stomach and to bile salts,
- adherence to intestinal epithelial cells and to the vaginal epithelium,
- unique ability to co-aggregate, increasing the efficiency of colonization of the vaginal epithelium,
- activity against: Gardnerella vaginalis, Prevotella bivia, Streptococcus agalactiae, Candida albicans, Escherichia coli ,
- antibiotic resistance typical of Lactobacillus bacteria .
