• • The drug is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor and reduces the enlarged prostate.
  • It is used for:
    • Treatment of benign enlargement of the prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia – BPH).
    • Reducing the risk of acute urinary retention and BPH-related surgical procedures in patients with moderate to severe signs of BPH.
  • The medicine should be used in patients with an enlarged prostate (volume of approximately 40 cm ^{3 or more).}
  • BPH is a benign enlargement of the prostate that often occurs in men over 50 years of age. The prostate is located at the junction of the urinary bladder and the urethra and surrounds it. Enlargement therefore leads to impairment when urinating. The following symptoms can occur with a benign enlargement of the prostate (BPH):
    • frequent urination, especially at night,
    • sudden urge to urinate,
    • Difficulty in starting bladder emptying,
    • interrupted, weak urine stream,
    • Residual urine formation or the feeling that the bladder cannot be completely emptied.
  • In some men, BPH can lead to serious conditions, such as urinary tract infections, complete blockage of urine flow (acute urinary retention), and the need for surgery.
